A slappy problem on the BBC boulder under The Turning Point, just to the left of Original Grapple. Start sitting in a nook using 2 crimps then hug your way past the opposing sidepull system eliminating the detached blocks to the right and left.

Stellar, but somewhat contrived.

Re-Entry Burn ascends a line up the west face of the BBC about 10 or 12 feet right of

Balance in Nature

. Look for the obvious line of holds with chalk on them and you are there. Start low on a RH sidepull and LH undercling and pull yourself onto small but OK footholds. The problem is finding the right sequence up the sharp edges, getting a foot up onto any of a number of miserable footholds and going for the top. Very clutch!

If this one doesn't hurt, you've got leather hands and no nerve endings. As for the grade, Benningfield called it V5 in CO Bouldering. Almost everyopne I know thinks it's quite a bit harder. We'll go with V6 for now.

Hike into main area of the Lower Satellites by following the signs to the Third Flatiron. When the A-7 Boulder is on your left, the huge rock complex known as the BBC will be on your right.

On the southeast corner of this complex of boulders is an obvious 12 foot high south-facing wall that goes to a ledge. Climb the south face to the top any number of ways (the most obvious are to maybe split it up into left and right variations and eliminate holds). Whatever, they're pretty fun and easy.

Hike into main area of the Lower Satellites by following the signs to the Third Flatiron. When the A-7 Boulder is on your left, the huge rock complex known as the BBC will be on your right.

On the southeast corner of this complex of boulders is an obvious 12 foot high south-facing wall that goes to a ledge. Climb the east face of this same fin of rock to the same ledge, starting just right of South Warmup.

The Turning Point

.  Move left across the roof, past some breaking rock (should clean up a bit with traffic) At the left corner of the boulder, the crux is getting up to the lip.  Several types of heel hooks on this one.

Hike into the Lower Satellites to the Best of Boulder County (BBC) Boulder. 101 Conquistadors is a short lip traverse across an undercut boulder (back behind the BBC) to an incredible crossover move to a finishing jug that allows you to pull over.

When you arrive in the alcove at the back of the BBC, imagine sliding down the top of the Turning Point slab like it were a slide. This will put you about 5 feet from the start of 101 Conquistadors. Sit start on the far left in the obvious place and traverse right using heel-hooks across the lip of the undercut boulder to a final mediocre edge. LOTS of tension will allow you to crossover 3+ feet with your left hand to reach the good jug and pull over the top. Fun, but not much to look at.

Campus Corner starts just right of Re-Entry Burn on the west face of the BBC. Reach up high to holds on the Turning Point Boulder and campus to a sloping shelf. From there, either get your right foot high and go for the top or campus again all the way to the top (a little harder) and pull over.

Kind of silly, but fun.

Up the left trail at the base of the Second Flatiron is the BBC boulder.  It's about thirty yards up the trail on the right, is a huge rock, and has massive rectangular block resting over it.  On the south side is an overhanging jug system with an easy top out.  The problem starts low on the right on an obvious jug and goes over the top.  Overall, it is a decent problem where the crux may be keeping your butt off a rock right beneath it.  I recommend it for beginners and intermediate climbers alike.

Fleshfest is located on the overhanging blunt east-pointing arete of the BBC complex up in the main area for the Satellites. It is located sorta back in an alcove on the right just after Zero G, the obvious hand traverse problem on the right hand side of the trail. If you get to the warmup problems at the southeast edge of the BBC you've gone about 20 feet too far.

Simply put, Fleshfest is one of the most amazing looking boulder problems in the Boulder area. Unlike most of the other problems in the Satellites, the landing isn't great. Bring pads and spotters and you'll be fine for working the crux moves on small holds which come pretty quick. Fortunately, the topout is relatively tame, so don't let its highball nature and sketchy talus landing keep you from putting this one on your ticklist.

This contrived dyno on the boulder that has all of the warm-ups(south warm-up,below and to the south east of BBC)goes from the big rock/pebble in the wall up the the flake or to the top. It is kind of stupid but still fun.

The Girlfriend Traverse

is a pyramid-looking rock. Either start in the middle on the big ledge and go up the edge to the top or, for a much harder variation, start low and work the edge all the way up.

Start hands in separate jugs on lowest part of East side of boulder with right toe under roof and left heel hooked on face.  Traverse over great edges North until you reach almost the end of the boulder.  Get really high foot and bump right hand out to crimp on face and left hand to micro edge sidepull on left.  Pull up to crimp with left hand and then reach for top.  Dangerous fall from crux.  Committing move...have a couple good spotters.  I am pretty sure this is a first ascent due to the lack of chalk and the fact that I scrubbed lichen of the three face holds that make it doable.  If anyone else has done this line...speak up. I suggest V5-6, but hell it could be V0 or VA-Million...who knows?

The Mailslot begins from a sds down to the right from Campus Corner on the west side of the BBC. Just left of a tree, sit down and using a good hold on the lip and a marginal heel-hook pull like hell for the obvious "mailslot" hold up on the north face of the Turning Point Boulder. Get your feet underneath you and pull up and over.

Hike into the Lower Satellites to the Best of Boulder County (BBC) Boulder. On the back (west) side of the BBC are a number of smaller boulders opposite the problems on the BBC.

Smooth Ride begins from a sit-down start in a slot between some bushes and ascends decent edges up a short and slightly overhanging face. A long reach gains a grim edge, just short of the slopey top. Either lockoff and "smooth it" or bump to the top and pull over. It goes both ways. Cool, but in typical Satellites fashion, too short for my taste.

Start on the right side of the arete, on two good holds about 6.5 feet up.  Work around to the left side of the arete and throw up to a side-pull on the right side of the arete. After that, some small crimp moves and a throw to the last hold. Felt....

This is a brutal 2 mover that is sure to shred skin if you have any left after the neighboring problems. Start just left of '

Re-entry Burn

' on a flat, two handed, small, crimp rail. Climb straight up through a gnarly sloper / pitch / heinous weird thing and a flat three finger sloper / imagination hold to the top. There are very few foot options! Fun movement. Grade? I don't boulder much.

matched on a good knob. Figure out your feet, and follow the small crimps and pockets left to the juggy start hold for '

. Stay true to the tiny crimps. Moving up to the rail is easier and makes you a disappointment to your family and friends. Don't do it.

What I have called Space Oddity (which is the name of the David Bowie song which memorializes Major Tom) is merely an easier variation to Major Tom. This problem starts low on the west/northwest face of the BBC Boulder a few feet left of Balance in Nature and just right of a tree. Instead of climbing up and slightly right to the top, veer left to the arete - almost behind the tree - and go to the top.

Not great, but worth doing if you are looking for easier stuff.

Lawn Dart starts low and ascends the short north face a few feet left of the northwest corner. It is not really worth doing unless you're desperate for easy stuff.

Start on the arete and step onto the large ledge. Continue up the arete and until you can top out.

Major Tom starts low on the west/northwest face of the BBC Boulder a few feet left of Balance in Nature and just right of a tree. Climb mostly edges up and maybe a little right to the top.

Good clean fun.

This problem is located on the North side of the BBC boulder in the main Satelite area.  The north side of the boulder is just ever-so-slightly overhanging, and has many small crimpy problems.  'Balance in Nature' starts on the very chalked undercling in the small left-facing dihedral towards the left end of the wall.  Bump up to some shallow crimps, then make a couple of longer moves to better crimps, and go for the top.

This one is definitely easier for taller folk, but has enough intermediate holds to make it fun for everyone.

'Turning Point' lies on top of the BBC (Best of Boulder County) boulder in the Satellites. The BBC is the enormous flat-topped boulder that lies on the right side of the trail as you're going up. Turning Point is hard to miss- it's the obvious problem that starts low on the severely overhanging boulder on the top of the BBC.Start with the right hand on the first good sloper/pinch on the face and left on the crimp just above the undercling (please don't start on the undercling because it's flexing and is very liable to break). Move your hands out onto the slopers on the face. Use some sneaky foot-beta and hand sequences to get to the arete, bump out left, then fire for the top! This is truly one of the greatest boulder problems in the area, and is not to be missed. The rock is flawless, and the problem is one of the most aesthetic anywhere.

Hike into the Lower Satellites. When the A-7 Boulder is up to the left and the BBC is up on the right, this problem will be on your right just off the trail.

Zero G starts low on the right and climbs up and left to the top, using a variety of handholds and trickery. Benningfields guide does not mention a sds, but do it with the sds and the problem is closer to - if not actually - V5.
